Troubleshoot Common G Suite Issues

G Suite is a package of powerful, cloud-based productivity and collaboration tools that let you perform important business tasks such as emails, chats, conferences, cloud storage, and documentation, among others. However, although G Suite is packed with features, it is also susceptible to bugs and issues. This article will help you troubleshoot G Suite issues so you can focus more on your work. In addition, links to other solutions to possible problems in G Suite are also included here.

Troubleshoot G Suite Issues

1. “admin.google.com is for G Suite accounts only”

You may get this error when attempting to sign in to the G Suite Admin console. If you see this error,  you are most likely trying to log in with your personal Google account (ends with @gmail.com).

To solve this issue, follow these steps:

  • In the page where you get the error message, click Add account. If you do not see this button, go to https://admin.google.com/ and click Add account.
  • Make sure that you are signing in using a G Suite administrator account, and not your personal account.

2. G Suite admin is no longer in the company

If your G Suite admin has already left the company and you have no means to access the admin console, the first thing that you should do is to try to communicate to the admin (the one who left) and ask for the admin username and password.

If you can no longer contact the admin, fill out this form. Under What is your issue?, select I cannot contact the administrator (left the organization, passed away, etc.).

After selecting the issue, fill out the rest of the form and click Submit.

You may also use this form on other login issues such as requesting for 2-step verification code, suspended account, forgotten admin username and password, unable to verify identity, your account has been illegally taken over, or if you need to restore your deleted G Suite or Cloud identity account.

3. Forgotten G Suite admin password

If you forgot your G Suite admin password, you can reset it yourself or ask a Super Admin to reset your password.

Reset it yourself:

  • Go to https://admin.google.com/.
  • Enter your admin username. Click Next.
  • Click Forgot password? and follow the prompts on the screen to reset your password.

This will only work if you remember your admin email. Otherwise, click Forgot email? on the sign-in page. Follow on-screen instructions to gain access to your account. You need to have a recovery email address or a phone number previously set up in your account for this to work.

Ask a Super Admin to reset your password

If there is anyone in your organization with Super Admin privileges, you may ask them to reset your password.

4. Unable to receive emails

If you are not receiving any emails, these are the possible reasons:

  • Your G Suite account is suspended. To determine whether or not you are suspended, sign in to your Google Admin console. If you are indeed suspended, follow this guide to restore your account.
  • Your domain has expired. Sign in to your domain hosting service and renew your subscription.
  • You have not completed the registration of a new domain. You need to sign in to your domain hosting service and complete the signup process.
  • It is also possible that Gmail is down. Check the G Suite Status Dashboard to determine if that is the case.

5. No one can hear you in Google Meet

  • You are muted. At the bottom of the screen, click Unmute.
  • Your Meet app does not have permission to access your microphone. This is likely to happen on macOS, Android, and iOS.
    1. In iOS, go to Settings, scroll down until you see your app list, locate Meet, and toggle Microphone
    2. In Android, go to Settings > Apps & notifications. Find Meet, tap Permissions, and allow access to the microphone.
    3. In macOS, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Microphone. Next to the name of the browser that you are using for Meet, make sure that the box is checked.
  • Your microphone may be disconnected or broken. Reconnect the microphone or try another one to see if it is still working.

6. Blank presentation screen in Google Meet

If other participants cannot see the presentation that you are currently sharing, share the entire screen before launching a presentation.

7. Classic Hangouts chat does not work with G Suite Voice

Hangouts will be replaced by Google Chat by late 2020. To avoid issues, you should switch to Google Voice for call and text management.

8. Cell data disappears in Google Sheets

Disappearing cell data is a rare bug in Google Sheets. If you encounter this problem,  you can recover the data from the edit history of a cell. You can access it by right-clicking on a cell and selecting Show cell history.

Final words

Any software that runs on a complicated algorithm or logic is prone to have bugs and issues especially when new features are introduced.  Because of this, cloud-based programs are susceptible to bugs and incompatibilities. That is why having the knowledge on how to solve these minor problems is important to save time.
